The Keto Diet - Is It Right For You? by guest blogger Eddie Eastwood

The Keto Diet has been trending for a while now. What’s the hype?

There’s a lot of hype, but how do you navigate through it all to figure out if this could be the right approach for you. Anyone who has ever heard me speak about the Keto Diet has heard me say that it can be profound for certain health conditions, but it’s not right for everyone.

This is not a dietary approach that you should jump into until you’ve done some research, or consulted with your wellness team. You need to make sure it is safe to use with your own body’s biochemistry and health conditions.

I’m excited to feature a guest blog this month to help you get started on understanding some of the pros and cons of this dietary approach.

The Keto Diet - Is it Right For You?

The keto diet is actually a low-carb, high-fat diet, which can be used to treat children with epilepsy who don't repond to medication. But many people adopt this as another eating plan like intermittent fasting to lose weight.

Keto can be used to treat diabetes. It wasn't intended for weight loss. I do not think it's the healthiest long term solution to address it, but rather it's being shoehorned into a situation to fix the problem.

I hate the word diet. I prefer to focus on nutrition. I see the body as an ever changing organism. Life choices and decisions can determine let's face it what everyone thinks about when it comes to the word diet, - the size of our bodies.

Most people equate diets to being thin. Bodybuilders equate diets to tightening up the muscle mass and burning fat they built up in the off-season usually so they looked ripped on stage. Bodybuilding is unusual as it combines weight and muscle gain with periods of extreme fat loss or mass reduction.

The problem I have with keto is that is gives carbohydrates a bad rap. People think that carbs are the problem. They are not, excess calories is the issue. Perhaps the source of calories as well, many no doubt from simple sugar based carbohydrates are bad for your health.

But adequate carbohydrates are essential for your mood and your body to function.
